What’s the Use of Twitter?

Currently there are 216 people following me daily on Twitter. Seems like a good crowd, doesn’t it?
But the thing is that I tried to test how responsive were those people and only 7 out of 216 clicked on the link that I’ve posted a day or so ago.
Of course, if you have 2160 followers and the same miserable percentage responds and clicks on the link that you’ve posted (that would make 70 people) that could be worth something — a traffic on demand…
So there are two things to find out — why Dan Reine and Ed Dale are promoting twitter that much? And how could you increase your Twitter followers number?

Ouch, with my 95 twitter followers, I’ll only get 3 clicks. Hardly worth it.
I’m anxious to find out if any of your readers have any experience with Twitter and offer their expertise in bringing the value to it.
